Wing to Wing, Branch to Branch 2026
About the work
"In heaven, may we be two birds flying wing to wing; on earth, two branches grown into one." Four great characters on gold paper, from Bai Juyi’s Song of Everlasting Sorrow. The colophon reworks the poem’s midnight vow — "the eighth of May, on the American west coast, at midnight when no one else whispered" — written in early summer 2026 to bless his child’s wedding, with pictorial seals of the paired birds and the intertwined tree.
