The Soul of Bourbon St. United States
Text
Boulevard of bruised brass—poured neat in chipped glasses, history drips down the brick like spilled rye. Each slab remembers boot-heels,blood-warm crescents of menwho wagered dawn against another song.Still, the neon hums its gospel,a pocket watch lost in the digital age, pulsing for the faithful seekersof Satchmo’s ghost.Trumpets scratch the moon’s veneer—ragged notes, half-mad,rattle shutters, flutter lungs. From every doorway,a saxophonist with nothing lefthammers out chaos into cadence, cajoles the night to rise, and in that ragged miraclewe feel the tug beneath the ribs—a bruise of joy,an ache of memory, the street’s old heartbeatdrumming us alive.
